White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy wants to see the team make a play for former teammate Adrian Gonzalez, according a report.
"I want Adrian to be my teammate over here," Peavy told CBS Sports.
The Padres are believed to have made Gonzalez available for quite some time.
"That's really what we need, a big left-handed hitter," according to one unnamed club source. "They're saying Kenny [Williams] would give anything to get him, maybe even [second baseman Gordon] Beckham."
Trade Rumor - Baseball Wiretap
Indians Could Use Wood As Trade Chip
Indians reliever Kerry Wood could be used as a trade chip by the team this year.
There was lukewarm interest in the veteran over the winter.
A few teams inquired, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, but they wanted the Indians to absorb most of Wood's 2010 salary.
Will Indians Deal Sizemore After 2010?
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that the Indians are likely to trade center fielder Grady Sizemore sometime following the 2010 season.
Hoyes writes, "I don't know who the Indians will get for Sizemore, but I do know they'll trade him sometime in 2011 or in his club option year of 2012. Sizemore will make $8.5 million in 2012 if the Indians pick up his option."
If Sizemore is traded before 2012, the club option in his contract becomes a player option and he could turn it down and become a free agent.
NL GM: Gonzalez Will Be Available At Deadline
The Padres are sending mixed signals regarding Adrian Gonzalez's future.
A rival National League general manager believes that Gonzalez will be made available midway through the 2010 season.
"He'll be available at the trading deadline. That's when the next push will come, and if it's a good deal, it would be hard to say no, given that they know they can't sign him," the GM said.
Jays Get Eveland From A's
The Blue Jays have acquired pitcher Dana Eveland from the Athletics for a player to be named later.
Eveland, 26, was designated for assignment by Oakland on Monday.
He went 2-4 with a 7.16 ERA in 13 appearances and nine starts during three stints with the A's and was 8-6 with a 4.94 ERA in 21 starts at Sacramento during the 2009 season.
Tigers Could Face Pressure To Make Move
The Twins may have placed pressure on the Tigers to make a move prior to spring training.
Free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon may not be a perfect fit for Detroit, but the improvements that Minnesota has made may force their hand.
Padres Still Hope To Extend Gonzalez
San Diego GM Jed Hoyer is optimistic that the Padres can sign Adrian Gonzalez to an extension.
?The team?s position with regard to Adrian has not changed at all,?? said Hoyer in an e-mail. ?We are excited to have him under contract for the next two seasons. He is a great player who fits our city, team, and payroll remarkably well. We have had, and will continue to have, dialogue with Adrian?s representatives about keeping him in San Diego longterm. It is still early in that process and attempting to draw conclusions in the middle of any negotiation is an inexact science.??
Gonzalez will turn 28 in May and is a durable, highly productive left-handed hitting slugger with good defensive skills.
